4 Things You Didn’t Know About Affiliate Marketing

Is affiliate marketing really worth it? Is it a viable source for you and your business? Does it chime well with your brand? When you’re new to affiliate marketing, it can be murky waters trying to figure if it’s the right path, and often the easiest option is to decide to not proceed with it at all.

Whilst passing up on the idea altogether may seem like the best option, there is much to be gained by proceeding. We’re going to take a look at some of the common misconceptions with affiliate marketing to bust the myths, and to head on the plight to figure out some affiliate marketing truths.

Whether you’re a small start-up or prolific brand giant, we hope that this article will assist your business in setting up a new type of marketing initiative.

1. Keep it fresh

Although there can be a huge amount of competition – and work – if your brand sticks at it there can be a lot to be gained in the long-term. If you nurture the right relationships, and partner with the brands that make sense for your brand and your business, much can be gained. Make sure to make regular updates to your content to keep things fresh. It’s also important to take a look at the business itself to decipher if it can run efficiently.

2. Niches are great, but not everything

Take the time to figure out what the right niche is for your brand. The more popular the niche, the more likely it is that the affiliate marketing programme will take and flourish. Frequently, brands can shy away from affiliate marketing if they feel that their business doesn’t operate within the correct field, or they can take a leap into a different market that doesn’t mesh well with their brand.

Getting this balance right, is key. Although niches can help to propel your brand to affiliate marketing glory, it is not completely necessary, and your brand can still do well with affiliate marketing so long as the pathway taken chimes with your brand and business as a whole.

3. SEO is king

Although many brands are using SEO (Google’s search engine optimization) to help new customers find their website, they aren’t always doing this with affiliate marketing. Make sure that you are using SEO effectively to build your brand – this will really help your affiliate marketing fly. 79% of traffic for affiliates are driven via SEO, according to Three Ladders Marketing.

4. Key relationships

Many brands go with the approach of abundance: they want their brand to be on as many websites as possible, being seen by as many potential customers as possible. The better way to do it is to build a few key relationships, that truly convert.

Although you may have one hundred affiliates, perhaps only three of these are converting – rather than spreading your resources thinly, try to put as much into the affiliates that are converting and truly giving your return on investment.
